As we step into the offseason one of the most exciting things (next to the transfer window of course) is the unveiling of new shirts. Does your team get an awesome new kit, or did their owner get too drunk one night and decide your team should wear neon yellow this season? Whatever the case may be, its always fun to take a look at the new shirts for next season. You can get excited that you’ve found a way to spend $70 already, or you can mock your rivals for their goofy new shirts. Join us after the jump for a look at some of the shirts from the last 2 weeks.
Manchester United Home (Speculative)

While there is really only speculation about the new United shirts, one thing that seems certain is that they’re going to have chevron on the front of the shirt. It looks good, but everything I’ve seen still has the AIG logo on it. You’d think they would have terminated the deal. Though, if this means less people buy United shirts in the US, I’m not complaining.
Aberdeen Home

Ok I’m a big fan of this one. I really like the slim white stripes making what would be a rather pedestrian red shirt a little more exciting. Aberdeen is where I can trace my roots back on my dad’s side so maybe I’ll have to pick one up.
Barcelona Home and Away

The last few years the stripes on Barca’s shirts have gradually gotten bigger, they reached their apex this year when the shirt was half and half. So they reverted back to the skinnier stripes of 05/06 which looks real good. I’ve always been a fan of Barca picking up unicef on their shirts too, very classy move for the treble winners.
Now the mango, Unprofessional Foul already covered it, but ugh. Barca have been notorious for wearing bright away shirts, yellow this year, electric blue last year, orange the year before, and neon yellow before that. This one takes the cake though. Not only is it bright, but its an ugly color. No champions of Europe should have to embarass themselves in that.
Birmingham Away

Just posting this because its now the 3rd instance of an all black away strip we’ve seen this season, and I’d be willing to bet we’ll see at least 1 more.
Tottenham

Well we know Spurs won’t have an all black away kit. But why are they going to have a 3rd shirt? They’re not in Europe this season, and surely if they have a white kit and a navy away kit they’re not going to need a yellow 3rd shirt incase white and navy clash, will they? I don’t understand the 3rd shirt, unless you just keep last seasons away shirt around for various reasons. Its a poor attempt at making money as I can’t see that many people buying it, but teams keep releasing them, so people must be buying them.
Celtic Away

Oh dear god.
Inter Milan Away

Clean and it doesn’t look like it should be an England kit. I loke when away kits take an element from the traditional home shirt and put it on the away shirt. If you removed the sponsor and the badge from this shirt, you’d still know it was an Inter shirt, not many shirts you can say that about.
Aston Villa Away

We already showed you this one a few days ago, but here it is again. Its real simple and I like that, but why the light grey/white half? On TV, or even at a game its going to translate as white to the human eye, so why make it that light of a split? It has to cost more money to manufacture that way.
Bayern Munich Home

We wrap it up again as we did last time, with that horrible new adidas template. However unlike last time, we’ve figured out how to make the shirt look halfway decent! Put it on some attractive girls. Even still it looks like a cycling shirt with the faux zipper (at least I hope its fake).
Well thats all for this round, what do you think?
I’m pretty sure I’m alone in this, but I kind of like the mango Barca shirt.
I’m totally buying a mango Titi
First of all: What the fuck Celtic? Did Stevie Wonder pick the colors based on what he could see?
Secondly: United. Hey guys, lose the chevron, lose AIG, and bring back the Cantona collars.
@WSR – I always liked their Vodafone kits. They must get a new sponsor though, having AIG on for another year would be folly.
In general, I think that salmon colored abomination that Barcelona is going to run out is one of the worst kits I’ve ever seen. Sorry, Mag. The Villa kit is sharpish, though, I don’t hate it.
Can I make a formal request for adidas to wake the fuck up and stop putting out awful kits? I don’t know which are worse…ours or Barca’s. At least we don’t have the giant RedBulls logo, I guess.
The Aberdeen kits are awesome. I think they’re the nicest ones I’ve seen for next season so far.
Anyone else think of giant bumblebees looking at the Celtic away kits? Ugh.
The Aberdeen shirt is very nice, it’s very similar to this nike training shirt from last season
LOVE the Villa kit.
So it’s true then – built-in sports bra/moob enhancer for Adidas. Nice.
The Aberdeen kit looks like a de-uglified version of the USMNT kit (the white one with the blue sideways stripes); I really don’t like the USMNT version, but am kind of okay with the Aberdeen version for some reason.
The white Villa kit isn’t bad, I guess, but it’s nowhere near as awesome as their current away kit. The silver lining is that the electric blue away kit should be on sale soon.
-Don’t like the chevron. I’m also pretty sure AIG is officially out and that the new shirt sponsor is an Indian-based mobile phone company called “Sahara.” That being said, I’ve also heard Samsung’s name thrown around.
-Aberdeen home shirts are always good.
-Celtic away shirts are always bad, and some times epically bad. Google “worst football kits ever” and see how long it takes for you to find the late 80′s/early 90′s Celtic away kits…why would you add brown?
-the new Hibernian kits are winners (http://www.hibsshop.co.uk/index.asp) with the exception of putting a corporate logo on the same leg as the club crest.
For tomorrow’s post, I’ll put in a cool photo I took whilst inside Lillywhite’s in London last year. Now THAT is a store every tourist footy fan should visit. Tons of kits for every size and shape. Right off the Piccadilly Circus tube stop in central London.
@Magnakai, thats one of the best things about teams getting new kits is the old ones go for cheap. I’d imagine this year especially since so many online retailers are having good sales on a lot of stuff already. I think I’ll be getting the villa away shirt just because I like the fact that acorns is on it.
@fuse: everything I’ve read about the United shirt sponsorship deal seems confusing. On one hand theres stuff pointing to them getting a new sponsor this season, and other stuff saying they’ll keep the AIG deal through this season.
On AIG, my understanding (nothing more) is that the deal went through next season, so ManU is getting paid regardless of the solvency of AIG (barring total bankruptcy, in which case all creditors get to fight over what’s left on the carcass). So, if our social security money can keep AIG afloat, ManU is paid for next season…which means the logo stays…

When I saw that abomination that is supposed to be Celtic’s away strip, I thought it was a fraud because I had seen a story where Celtic had another away strip already being teased:
http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2009/05/12/new-celtic-fc-2009-10-international-away-kit/
But apparently that’s their INTERNATIONAL away kit. C’mon, Bhoys, just make it your normal away kit as well. Much better than whatever the hell is in that photo above.
[...] till next season, so we’ll still see their lovely logo and I have a feeling no matter what it looks like, they won’t sell nearly as well in the US next year as in years [...]
