Tonight, we comment, tomorrow, we do this!
It’s Last Call for New Year’s Eve eve. I feel like I’ll be happy to be shut of 2009 all things considered, despite it not being such a horrible year for me personally. I guess that’s a decent theme for the evening, what did you like about 2009? It can be personal, public, what have you.
So what happened today? In the footy world, we had some Premier League blowouts as Arsenal stomped Portsmouth and Manchester United whipped Wigan. In the Scottish Premier League, two contests saw Hearts defeat Motherwell while Kris Boyd scored FIVE for Glasgow Rangers as they dismantled Dundee United.
In other news, Mike Leach was fired “for cause” from Texas Tech, just two days before their bowl game against Michigan State. Chad Ochocinco called out superstar cornerback Darelle Revis of the Jets, saying he “couldn’t cover him in a phone booth”. Finally, Bobby Bowden ran his final practice as head coach of Florida State before they take on West Virginia. Right now we have Bowling Green/Idaho on the Mothership, followed by Arizona taking on Ndamokung Suh and Nebraska in the nightcap.
Have at it in comments, kids. We’ll be around I’m sure.
Evening ladies.
Hey boyo, how’s your Wednesday?
Just found out I’m not working tomorrow night which kind of sucks.
Sucks because you didn’t plan anything because you thought you had to work? Or sucks because you’ll be out some dough?
Sucks because I have no plans and now if I do go out, it’s like a $400 swing in cash.
No WAY am I going out tomorrow night. These roads aren’t safe most nights, but especially not full of drunks and Pissed-off NJ State Troopers.
Anyone wants to come here, email me – we’re gonna sit around in front of the giant tv and drink. You can flop on the couch, guest bed, on the floor in front of the fire, wherever. I’ve got lots of blankets.
Today was a wee bit cold to be stomping around Cape May. Even though plenty of stores were closed for the holidays, I had fun.
And GODDAMMIT, can’t anyone fucking count properly? IT IS **NOT** THE END OF THE DECADE, that’s NEXT December (2010). Idiots.
\get off my lawn you kids!
\\gets off soapbox
The thing I like most about 2009 is that it’s almost over. It was a piece of shit year for me…third one in a row, actually. If 2009 were a kitten I would make certain it haz a sad.
Well, I did like the emergence of TPP and meeting people from there.
I concur on the year, and the rise of the TPP clan
“The Rise of the TPP Clan” sounds like a drunken zombie movie.
I approve.
Actually, it’s the sequel to “The Birth of a Nation.”
Good evening, fellow alcoholics.
2009 did suck. Hopefully 2011 will be better, because I’m already writing 2010 off.
Hey cunt mullets. I forget, can I say cunt in LC? If not I apologize.
Not much going on today eh? WTF is going on with Leach & Tech though? This whole thing seems weird. I dunno what to make of it other than a guy getting a back hand from folks who never seemed to understand or like him (I know the feeling).
Oh for those of you in Boston? Enjoy your Jan. 1 outdoor hockey, we had a freaking BLAST with it here last time. It’s gonna be awesome.
As for this year? Fuck this year. Seriously. Fuck you 2009 in your infernal gaping twat. You can go away now.
/not really this angry all the time honest
I am definitely looking forward to watching the outdoor hockey game. The last winter I had a TV I remember the game in Buffalo. I’m definitely hunkering down Saturday afternoon in front of the TV for it.
1) i don’t think we’ve refrained from any particular language (outside of abject racism), but you’d need a ruling from the ATD boys, as this is their playground. But id doesn’t bother me any, not that I’d expect anyone to care what I think.
2) I briefly flirted with the idea of getting tickets to attend said hockey game – then common sense took over and shouted in my ear – you’re thinking of paying HOW MUCH to sit OUTSIDE in Boston in THE DEAD OF WINTER? You insane cow!! *smack*
Yeah, like I said folks in town were fired all the way up. And we lost. (In true wriggley fashion though, nobody seemed to care or even notice.)
Anyway it’ll be great even on tv, NBC’s covering it again, right? Tune in if only to watch Bob Costas shiver his sanctimonious little balls off.
Christmas and New Year’s should always net three-day weekends like these past two weeks.
YARRR!!!
Congratulations, you just put another one past Wigan with the wind from that Yarrr.
Yay!!!
Poor Wigan. I don’t dislike them and I do enjoy beating them 5-0. But Jesus Christ, we beat them like that almost every fucking time. At this point you can set your watch to it.
I’m just a little sad about the end of Cap’n Leach on Texas Tech. The following e-mails that were sent in support, however, are gold.
Harrell’s is 24k

@Sculptor!?! – I was a little confused by everyone’s counting.
I’m glad for the end of ’09, but not really that excited for the beginning of ’10 either.
Really, I have no idea where these idiots went to school. I’d say “America” and be snarky and blase about our craptastic educational system of late, except that *I* CAN count, and many of the TV talking heads are at least my age, if not older. So I don’t know what their excuse is.
I’ll do it for you. I’ll say “America”. If the last 10 years have taught me nothing, its that Americans “as a group”, are dumber than the dirt they live on. I know plenty of smart ones, plenty of wise ones. But this country’s “average person” is a freaking moron. No one went broke underestimating the intelligence of Americans. Fuck, see the “Snuggie”…
Haha, agreed, completely. It still doesn’t explain people MY age (old) who can’t seem to grasp the concept that this decade ends on December 31, 2010.
you ain’t old, babe.
(unless you have some weird surprise for me).
Have to admit, this Bowling Green/Idaho game has been really entertaining thus far. This Barnes youngster from Bowling Green is having a Welker-like night.
In fact, with this last touchdown, Freddie Barnes numbers:
17 catches, 219 yards and 3 touchdowns. YIKES.
Just saw the above view – the safety was in a lose-lose situation – if he didn’t drop, the guy over the middle was wide open with room to run and when he dropped… well…
This game has been amazing, quite frankly.
Go for 2!
He’s going for it! Love to see this.
What a finish. Idaho 43, BGSU 42. Ridiculous game.
Quite the beard on the policeman behind the coach with the gravely voice.
This cheers me up a little…

I keep meaning to ask you, what do you hear on Rashad/Rampage? Is it going to happen in 2010?
Rampage wrote on his website earlier this month that he’s coming back. He also challenged Dana White to a boxing match. I think that fight is going to happen, but according to Dana (consider the source) Rashad must beat Silva. I bet it happens either way.
It will be interesting to see if Rampage attends this weekend’s fight.
Any of you watch Better off Ted? I’ve seen a few episodes of the show and I’ve been impressed.
I’ve seen one or two episodes, and been quite amused. I just never remember that it’s on.
I think ABC is doing its best to get it cancelled – it moves around every week, so I think you need to check your evening schedule every week.
It’s on Tuesdays after Scrubs. ABC is indeed trying to get it cancelled. It was created by the guy who made Andy Richter Controls The Universe.
What’s up everyone? Watching today’s footy matches while finding out about a minute too late what I was missing on ESPN, and drinking ahead of a 2nd 4-day weekend (YAY Baby Jesus and Baby 2010! You babies RAWK!). As for amateur night tomorrow, I’ll be home keeping the dogs from going insane due to fireworks (thank you, Texas, for not banning them statewide). Being on the roads tomorrow night is for college students and Iron Man, and I am neither…
I’m just catching up on the footy now. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Megson was fired – he seems to be hired and fired every season or two – Championship or Premiership.
Haven’t seen any manager so disliked from day 1. SFBolton’s fans obviously had reached the point that they felt they “deserved” to be in the EPL, and his firing, like all managers, was just a matter of time…
They’re Bolton. I don’t know what they expect. Allardyce overachieved with that squad. I guess it’s more that Megson seems to have managed every club that has been promoted or relegated over the past 10 seasons.
At a womens’ basketball game – the people watching potential at these things is MASSIVE.
Oh, and I plan on staying at home, drinking unhealthy amounts of alcohol, and watching a couple of Blu-Rays in the constant battle to defeat the common fuckin’ cold.
How’s things with the rest of you kids?
I hope you have a camera – some of these “people” are beyond describing…
I do have a cameraphone – from circa 2006. I’ll see what I can scrounge up, but no promises.
Being without a proper camera, I must rely on the power of descriptive phrase to portray one of the more passionate fans at tonight’s game.
Imagine the character Bob from Fight Club, dressed in a cherry polo shirt and a red clown’s wig, holding foam paws with silver pom-poms attached to them – sometimes switching to a homemade poster stating “Amanda is the Best” in reference to UNM player Amanda Best.
Oh, and there’s jumping involved.
Yeah, it’s a hoot.
Fucking Arizona. When you play against Suh, you gotta change up your gameplan.
Naw. Just run up the middle and try to wear him down. Just make sure you have a decent supply of disposable QBs, RBs, and OL.
The funny thing is, we have one of the biggest O Lines in the FBS. We have a couple big 6’7″ 350lb lineman.
Well. The Cavs are down by three, with 5 min to go in the 4th. Making things interesting, as usual. Anyone with Directv and the sports package can tune in to the Cleveland feed on channel 660 (SD) or 660-1 (HD) if interested
Pseudo Celebrity Sighting!
I just saw Seth Petruzelli, the white guy that knocked out Kimbo Slice, walking out of my local Publix.
He was driving a huge yellow Hummer with too much chrome and a big ass Skull on the side.
No pink hair though.

Don’t everybody get excited all at once.
I’m disappointed. I was hoping for a picture of you with the Hummer.
Here ya go:

Pics of Seth and said Hummer
Oooh, bitchin’ ride.
\stifles laughter
OH SHIT!!! Sideshow Bob dropped an AWESOME bomb for two. Wait, upon review, it looks like a three…
You wonder how Mike Leach is going to sleep tonight. It sure sounds like his hard-headedness and his refusal to try to work things out cost him a lot of money.
On a really fucking big pile of money. He’s still getting the $800k bonus, and he’s going to get a good chunk of his remaining contract because the school will settle.
I hope he’s coaching again soon – perhaps as an off. coordinator. I don’t know if Virginia has hired one yet, but it’d be neat to see a fun to watch team in the ACC.
Otherwise, it’d be sweet to see him as an off co-ordinator at a powerhouse school to see if he can beat his texas tech numbers.
I see ESPN’s story quoted some players who said that what Leach did wasn’t cricket (and failed to quote the other side). I’d be interested to hear what actually happened – especially from the medical staff.
Leach takes the year off, then becomes the hottest coaching prospect next year.
@Sculptor: The end of the “decade” is the first 10 years of the 2000s aka the Aughts. Also, a “decade” can be measured in any 10 yr block. Stop nit picking. The majority is right on this one.
Good evening folks.
Technically, then, EVERY day is the end of a decade. Are we supposed to party each night to celebrate?
And the majority was also wrong about the millennium. If the majority said jumping in front of a moving train was a good thing to do, does that make it right?
\your Mom’d
Yes. Yes we are supposed to party every night. Put on your dancin shoes.
“If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do the same??”
That, and “Do you want to air-condition the world?”
“Were you born in a barn?”
Boy, did I get a helluva smack when I replied “If I was, that makes you a heifer, Mom”
My favorite (granted, weak), was finally buying a house and actually “air-conditioning the world” – it was like 90 outside, and I just left the back door open. Why? Cause I could…then I had to pay that bill…but it was worth the $s
I still have never touched my thermostat, and I’ve had my own places for about a decade. I’m afraid that if I do, my dad’ll kick in the door and beat the crap out of me.
HAHAHAAAA.
Can we add “Stop looking in the fridge! You’re wasting electricity, and there’s nothing new in there from the last time you looked 5 minutes ago!!”
The wheels on the bus are falling off. Falling off. Falling off. The wheels on the bus are falling off. Man if Mike Stoops doesn’t get shit in check for next year we are supremely fucked. Supremely.
Gally, your team is getting shit on. At least now they won’t have to worry about the premature rushing the field.
Not only are they getting shit on, they’re rolling in it and using it as lube as they madly try and forget the heinous rape that is being comitted against them. Again I say fuck.
@Sculptor
Exactly my point. The Millenium (as in the 2nd thousand years) turned in 2001. The end of the 1900s was when the calender turned from 1999 to 2000.
All that other stuff about moms and shit? I got nothing, except this:
You’re momma was an astronaut.
An astronaut? HAHAHAA. That outranks combat boots for sure.
(Assuming I didn’t fuck up the quote.)
I’m disappointed in all y’all. Not one commenter could follow up the next line?
“We’re goin’ Sizzler… we’re goin’ Sizzler”
Y’all have homework for 2010.
Is this what Shakey is doing in his free time now?
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/30/pennsylvania.animal.remains/index.html
Absolutely not. There was only around 500.
Decades always end in the 9 year. Yes most had the Millenium wrong, but they are right about this. The 60′s ran from 60-69, not 60-70 or 61-70. Same with the 70′s, and 80′s. The 90′s did not run from 90-2000 and then start a new decade on 01/01/2001. Sorry Sculpt, but it is what it is.
