What you missed while Gandalf was being a crappy wizard…
- England manager Fabio Capello wants Andy Carroll to drink less.
- Gareth Barry will captain the all-reserve England side against Ghana today.
- Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon has withdrawn from England duty with a “hamstring complaint”. If Lennon’s hamstring thinks like I think, that complaint is probably “Why the hell is England playing Ghana today?”
- Former Ghanaian captain Stephen Appiah is pretty sure that England isn’t taking this game as seriously as Ghana.
- Spurs defender William Gallas has signed a two year extension with the club.
- Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has warned Cesc Fabregas to expect a fan backlash if he leaves for Barcelona.
- Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere wants to play for England during the U-21 European Championships this summer.
- Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is confident that Andy Carroll’s £35 million transfer fee has been earmarked for his use in the transfer market this summer.
- AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi could return from injury in three weeks.
- Standard Liege midfielder Stephen Defour has been linked with a €10 million move to Benfica.
- Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham can’t pick a side between Real Madrid and Tottenham, seeing as he’s played for both clubs. I actually had to think for a moment to remember that he “played” for Spurs the way that Chad Ochocinco played for Sporting Kansas City this past winter.
- Speaking of which, Sporting Kansas City trialist Chad Ochocinco was unimpressive during a reserves match.
- Manchester United will play against the MLS All-Stars on July 27th; this is their second year in the tournament. Last year, Manchester United beat the MLS All-Stars 5-2.
- Former New York Red Bulls technical director Jeff Agoos has been hired by MLS as a technical director of competition.
- Former Seattle Sounders and Switzerland striker Blaise Nkufo has announced his retirement from the sport.
Sporting KC only keeping C85 around for the media attention…
Yeah, probably. C85 seems to be sticking around for a legitimate love of the game, however, which is refreshing.
I agree with Mags. Ochocinco seems sincere in his love for the game, and he’s very aware he’s got a lot of work to do to improve. He’s respecting the game and the organization. Why not keep him around? C85 gets to stay in shape and have some fun, SKC & MLS get a ton of positive publicity. Win-win.
I for one hope they send him home today. He has been classy the past week, but he’s clearly not good enough and there isn’t enough time for him to be good before the NFL season starts (they’re going to solve the lockout). He got his Make-A-Wish Foundation moment, let’s leave it at that and not waste anyone’s time.
News out of Sporting KC today: Newcastle United will be playing a friendly at LiveStrong Park on July 20! Very cool, esp since one of my best friends is a Toon fan. Now, if we could just get Arsenal over here…Fat chance, I know, but Ryan Smith is an Arsenal youth product.
NO JACK, YOU DO NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE ENGLAND U-21s THIS SUMMER.
Only going to burn him out, and with Arsenal’s luck, get him injured. England aren’t going to win, there is nothing to prove, take the summer off.
I dunno… they need all the help they can get…
Normally i would shout Run Jack Run…but as a Gunner fan I’d be worried he’d pull something, so instead….
HIDE JACK, HIDE!!
