Disappointing result for Sporting KC. Once again a short spell of switching off defensively cost us points despite the fact that we dominated possession and had nearly all of the attacking play. Credit to Philly for defending well. I’m also increasingly frustrated by KC’s inability to take advantage of width and speed. They keep funneling everything through the middle and taking too many touches, giving the opponents time to organize, shut down passing lanes and pressure us. It’s great that we’ve climbed from so low after the first 10 games, but we’ve given away too many chances to win games to be a true MLS Cup threat in my opinion. If we had not botched it late v. SEA, DAL, & PHI we’d be 7 points clear in the East now.
That last sentence made me chuckle. That’s what the Revs have done to the “nth” degree this season- it’s been the difference between being a playoff team and being the second worst team in MLS (thank you Vancouver Whitecaps!!).
Yeah, yeah. I almost qualified that last sentence with “…, but we did botch it late in those games.” You’re absolutely right, though, and that’s why I don’t see KC as a legit Cup threat to the likes of LA or Seattle.
If you haven’t seen DeRo’s hat trick from Saturday, it was darn impressive and a lot of fun to watch live. He got it done in 32 minutes, and set a new record for fastest hat trick in MLS history. Highlights…
